Foster Parent Requirements
FOSTER PARENT CERTIFICATION
California Foster Families, Inc. is dedicated to providing therapeutic intervention within the optimal environment for change. The agency provides extensive support and training to foster parents and ongoing treatment for children. Foster parents most suited to provide the highest level of care are recruited for certification by California Foster Families, Inc. Foster parents are recruited through word of mouth advertising, person-to-person recruiting, and walk-ins. All prospective foster parents are required to complete an application process. The initial application process requires completion of an application, home study, Live Scan of fingerprints which includes Child Abuse Index, FBI and Department of Justice clearances, criminal record statement, medical and TB screening, submission of DMV printout, copy of social security card, drivers license and auto insurance, emergency disaster plan, facility sketch, and
completion of a pre-certification visit were additional documentation in accordance with Title 22 regulations is completed. Prospective foster parents are also required to complete twelve (12) hours of training prior to certification in addition to 1 st Aid and CPR certification. This includes 8 hours of pre-certification training provided by the agency. Upon completion of all required documentation the physical plant of foster homes is evaluated and a home safety checklist is completed. The physical plant must meet the requirements set forth by Title 22 regulations. Upon certification of a foster home, the process aimed towards re-certification will begin. The agency social worker will support the foster parents in completing requirements for re-certification. The agency will provide ongoing trainings for certified foster homes to maintain the highest quality of service.
